Preparation and application
Substrate and preparation
Concrete substrates to be coated must be sound and exhibit a minimum compressive strength of 25N/mm² and a minimum of 1.5N/mm² tensile strength for the application of the proposed system. The profile and levels must be appropriate for the application of the proposed system, capable of bearing loads, free of cracks and voids, and free from laitance, dust and other contamination. Should there be impurities such as penetrated oils, etc., please refer to the ASP Technical Team for a suitable and appropriate substrate preparation guideline or solution. The substrate may be prepared by blasting, scarifying or diamond grinding to remove laitance. Irregularities, small damages and cracks must be repaired with an epoxy filler.
Primer
Mix Base A and Hardener B with a low speed drill fitted with a spiral mixing blade for approximately 3 minutes to obtain a homogeneous mixture. Ensure air is not introduced while mixing. The mixed material must be applied within 15 minutes at 20ºC. Apply immediately after mixing with a roller or double-lipped rubber squeegee, working the resin well into the substrate, permeating any surface irregularities. On porous substrates, apply further resin until the substrate is completely wetted out. Avoid any ponding of the primer.
Slurry coat
Mix Base A and Hardener B together with a low speed drill fitted with a spiral mixing blade for approximately 3 minutes to obtain a homogeneous mixture. Slowly add in the Filler C and mix for a further 2 minutes. Ensure air is not introduced while mixing. The mixed material must be applied within 15 minutes at 20ºC. Apply immediately after mixing with a with a flat edge steel trowel or squeegee. Allow to stand for a few minutes and then broadcast to full saturation with the natural quartz. Broadcast again over areas that are still resin rich. Allow to stand for 10 - 15 minutes to let the natural quartz settle. The surface can now be floated with a light weight power trowel fitted with soft plastic blades to minimise trowel marks. Do not over trowel. When power floating, leave an untrowelled edge of about 15cm to seamlessly tie in the next section.
Top coat
Mix Base A and Hardener B together with a low speed drill fitted with a spiral mixing blade for approximately 3 minutes to obtain a homogeneous mixture. Ensure excessive air is not introduced while mixing. The mixed material must be applied within 15 - 20 minutes at 20ºC. Apply immediately after mixing with a 1.2mm precision coating rake. Allow to stand for approximately 10 minutes, then roll with a bubble buster / spike roller to release any trapped air. ASP-coat500 may be applied in one thick coat or two coats. The second coat may be applied after 10 hours but no later than 24 hours after the first coat. Optional non-slip and textured finishes are available. For more detailed information on substrate requirements and preparation, priming and application of the top coat, please refer to the product’s method statement.
Maintenance
Clean all spillages on ASP-screedPTS immediately to maintain its appearance and lifespan. Clean the floor regularly with a rotary brush or mechanical scrubber and a suitable detergent. See how to clean and maintain a resin floor.
Health and safety
Applicators must use appropriate personal protective equipment. Dispose of used and empty packaging, solvents and washings in line with local environmental, health and safety by-laws. Refer to the product's material safety data sheet for detail.
For full substrate requirements, priming and application of the top coat, refer to the product's method statement or ask our technical team.
